Honestly I don't think this is especially accurate. I put it in soil in a pot in 3 different places and got 3 wildly different ratings, which I thought was odd. I put it in a bowl of water and it said it was a 6. For my especially deep pots, it's hard to gauge what's happening at the bottom of the soil, which was why I bought this, but it doesn't seem to be working very well. Oh well, get what you pay for.
